Anticancer activity of peptides derived from hen¢¥s egg white was studied using a mouse lymphoma cell line, P388D1. Extracts of egg white protein hydrolysates were obtained by the digestion and extraction using various proteases and solvents, respectively. Among the extracts of egg white hydrolysates, the acetone extract of alcalase-hydrolysate exhibited the highest antiproliferarive activity against a mouse lymphoma cell line, P38D1. The acetone extract of alcalase-hydrolysate was fractionated by a reverse-phase semi-preparative HPLC. In the DNA cell cycle analysis, the peptide fraction obtained by the HPLC was considered to induce the cell death by blocking G2/M phase of the cells. It was also shown that the apoptosis was induced by the peptide fraction in a concentration-dependent manner.
